There have been many questions about PowerMail and K2 and Powermail and Joomla 1.6. As we are entering another development cycle, hopefully this will help our community to see where PowerMail is heading and give a bit of a time table. Development is a slower process when it is done by a smaller group than many that are not making a living off of a product. However, we are committed to moving PowerMail forward and all suggestions and feature requests are taken seriously into consideration. Currently our development is actively in place and nearly finished for v1.9. Some of the features are listed below. After this, we are working on K2 integration and then finally Joomla 1.6. Our users seem to have voted for K2 over Joomla 1.6. Our apologies to those who are already migrated to Joomla 1.6. We felt that support of the larger Joomla 1.5 community was most important before doing this changeover. We have some exciting new features for PowerMail v1.9. These include:
1. PowerMail frontend component
a. Standard PM view will be a blog view of the latest published emails received. You should have the option of being able to filter by sender, user. account sent to
b. List view of PM postings. Same filters available for these
2. Avatars
Avatars can be assigned to each user/sender or to each account. A custom picture can be chosen that will be inserted at the top left of each blog entry.
3. PowerMail modules A new module will be available that can list the titles of the latest Powermail postings by user or account. 4. User alert email An option to send an email to the sender of the emails is given. This email will mainly be an alert to them that the email was received by powermail 5. Publish/Unpublish option We have added both "publish" and "unpublish" buttons to the admin alert email. This way, an article can easily be published or unpublished immediately or in the future by the administrator of the site. This is a definite winner! 6. Bugfix for blank screen error when account password was wrong and the account is tested. 7. Additional image format control Specifically we are adding the ability to float attached photos to the left so that the text can flow around them. 8. html stripping and replacing We are working on a special plugin which will integrate with PowerMail. It will have the ability to strip out unwanted parts of html that are parts of standard emails that are being sent to the site repeatedly. For instance, if your Constant Contact newsletter is sent to your website for an announcement as content however you do not want the "unsubscribe" portion at the bottom. This could also be used to replace a picture or other html element from a standard email being sent.
Issues that we are exploring to see whether they will be part of the v1.9 release as follows: 1. Automatic readmore insertion not using the TIDY library of PHP. We have had several users that have had trouble because of this necessity. We are working on a method to do this without this library. 2. A {html} powertag to allow whatever html to be included in a sent email. 3. Rotation of iPhone photos that are sent that are in the wrong orientation. We need users to help us test this and find a solution currently. If you are interested, please email us. 4. Ability to receive large videos. We are working on another method for users who may send larger files to their PowerMail accounts that will not suspend their websites while the file is being received.
